Apple’s September event redrew the iPhone lineup, refreshed both flagship Watch families and brought active noise cancellation to the standard open-ear AirPods line.

Apple Event 2026 at a glance

The headline belonged to iPhone Duo, Apple’s first foldable iPhone. The familiar slab phone continued through iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max, while Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 introduced the company’s new Health Sensing System. AirPods 5 completed the hardware announcements with two case options and open-ear active noise cancellation.

Here is the short version for anyone deciding what deserves a closer look.

iPhone Duo opens a second screen

The biggest structural change is easy to see. iPhone Duo closes around a 5.4-inch outer display and opens to a 7.6-inch inner display. Apple says both screens use the same aspect ratio so content can move between them without a dramatic change in shape. The inner screen supports multitasking features such as two apps side by side, and Apple says Apple Pencil support will arrive later in 2026.

Inside, iPhone Duo uses the A20 Pro chip and a dual-battery design. Its cameras include a 48MP Fusion Main camera, a 48MP Fusion Ultra Wide camera and a Center Stage front camera. The hinge also creates new shooting positions: the phone can stand partly open, show a preview on the outer display or use the rear cameras for a selfie while the subject sees the framing.

Apple lists iPhone Duo at $1,999 for 256GB in the U.S., with additional 512GB, 1TB and 2TB options. Preorders begin October 16, and availability begins October 23. That later schedule gives the rest of the September lineup a five-week head start.

iPhone 18 Pro centers the camera

iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max keep the single-screen shape and focus on a new 48MP Fusion Main camera with variable aperture. The adjustable opening gives photographers another way to manage light and depth of field. Apple also added Pro controls inside the Camera app and continued the all-48MP rear camera approach across main, ultra-wide and telephoto roles.

Both models use A20 Pro. Apple’s release positions the chip around sustained performance, photography and its 2026 Siri AI rollout. As with other Apple Intelligence features, availability can depend on hardware, software, language and region.

U.S. pricing starts at $1,199 for iPhone 18 Pro and $1,299 for Pro Max. Preorders begin September 12, followed by store availability on September 18.

Two new Apple Watches share a health-sensing direction

Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4 both move to the S11 chip and Apple’s new Health Sensing System. Apple says the system measures heart rate and heart-rate variability more frequently and contributes to a new readiness score. The company also announced Audio Intelligence functions, including Sound Recognition and features that use Apple Intelligence models on a compatible iPhone. Exact feature availability can vary by device, software, language and region.

Apple Watch Series 12

Series 12 comes in 42mm and 46mm sizes. Aluminum colors include dark bronze, black, light gold and space gray; titanium options include radiant gold and natural titanium. Apple states an everyday battery estimate of up to 24 hours under its test conditions. Series 12 starts at $399 in the U.S. and becomes available September 18.

Apple Watch Ultra 4

Ultra 4 continues in a 49mm titanium case, offered in natural and black finishes. Apple states up to 50 hours of everyday use and up to 84 hours in Low Power Mode under its testing assumptions. Its longer range makes the new Ultra especially interesting for people who want to test shorter stretches away from a phone, although calls, messages, maps and streaming still depend on the connection and service available to the Watch. Ultra 4 starts at $799 and becomes available September 18.

AirPods 5 bring ANC to a lower price

AirPods 5 introduce active noise cancellation in Apple’s open-ear form. Apple also highlights a new acoustic architecture, Adaptive EQ, improved resistance to dust, sweat and water, and access to Live Translation and Siri AI when the required iPhone, software, account, language and region are supported.

The base model starts at $129. AirPods 5 with Wireless Charging Case cost $149 and add on-stem volume control. Preorders opened after the event, with availability beginning September 18.

The upgrade creates one more decision

A new Watch can earn its place through a feature you will use: the latest sensing hardware, longer battery estimates, a different case or a better fit for your daily routine. The purchase also creates a quieter question. What happens to the Watch that leaves your wrist?

Techpod’s current selector lists S4/5/6/SE, S7/S8/S9, S10/S11 and Ultra 1/2/3 groups. Series 12 and Ultra 4 do not appear in that selector as of September 10, 2026, so the natural candidate after an upgrade is a previous listed Watch.
